UNICORN SPORTS CENTER is the original soccer specialty store in Orange County and is a true pioneer in bringing soccer and genuine soccer gear and equipment to Orange County since 1976. The owner Jim MacLean  worked with many of the founders of soccer in the area including Gordon Poppit, Bob Knipe, Sandy Strachan, Bill Beverly and lots more. From one Region (5) came Regions 55, 143 and south H.B. 56. From 12 teams in Huntington Beach to hundreds in a few years. The initial growth was tremendous and as the kids got older the High Schools kicked in. Club soccer also revved up and the first in Huntington Beach was the H.B.Y.S.C. followed shortly after by Steve Oliver's N.H.B.F.C.  both Steve and the club are still going strong. Sadly to say the H.B.Y.S.C. folded when the founding coaches kids got older and started telling their dads how to play! These were the days of 100% volunteers and it was not unusual to see the President of a club or the Commissioner of the region along with their board members AND wives cutting the grass, filling holes and laying out fields wherever we could find them.  We have seen professional leagues and teams come and go (who will ever forget The Wolves ( Los Angeles) and Aberdeen (Seattle) play that 6-5 game at the Coliseum) STUPENDOUS!! It is a pleasure to see how many children (and adults) are playing the game today and it is the direct result of all that hard work and time put in by all these volunteers in the past and, of course now. It is also the result of - well - simply- THE BEAUTIFUL GAME - SOCCER!! Everybody plays, you don't have to be 10' tall or weigh 300 lbs. All through these years the UNICORN has continued to contribute to youth soccer  through sponsorships and has focused on two things: excellent customer service and high quality sports equipment.        Since opening, Unicorn Sports has made many long lasting friends and hopes to service the soccer community for many years to come.
